Children speak of moment they formed human arrow to aid police manhunt

A group of quick-thinking children have told of the moment they dropped to the ground and formed a human arrow to aid police with a manhunt.

The youngsters, aged between six and 12, were on an Easter Egg hunt in a field in Surrey on Good Friday when they noticed a police helicopter circling above them.

The schoolchildren quickly lay flat on the ground and formed the shape of an arrow to lead police to two burglary suspects they had spotted sprinting along the edge of the field, near the village of Capel.

Speaking of their adventure, the group told The Mail on Sunday: “We feel really proud – it was awesome."

One child, a nine-year-old girl told the newspaper: “It was really noisy and we could see it said ‘police’ on the bottom.

“Then we saw a man running along the side of the field. We could see him but the helicopter couldn’t because it was hovering over the woods.

“We saw the man take his jumper off and put it around his head.”

She added that the children jumped and shouted at the helicopter to show them where the man was before deciding to form the arrow.

After realising what the children were up to, the pilot used the helicopters thermal camera to follow the direction of the arrow and detect the men before informing officers on the ground.

Two men, aged 28 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of burglary following the incident.

Both have been bailed pending further enquiries.
