Do the maths - geek-chic from Ashish

London fashion Week Day 5
1/15
19 September 2012

On the final day of London Fashion Week, Ashish brought a cerebral touch to the catwalk. With a collection inspired by maths and geometry, Ashish Gupta’s signature love of sequins gave geek-chic a shimmering makeover.

In a school-uniform colour palette, the Delhi-born designer’s spring/summer 13 offering featured a slew of mismatched shapes and fabrics with uneven hems, asymmetric sleeves and contrasting trouser legs.

Bold number prints appeared on oversized white shirts which billowed from beneath cropped T-shirts, while floating polka dots were embroidered onto sheer tulle tops and petticoat skirts.

The designer also blended in sporty elements with slouchy tracksuits, backless vests, low-slung drawstring shorts and grey marl sweatshirts, while each outfit was teamed with vintage Reebok trainers, odd socks and top-knots tied with metallic hair scrunchies.

But sequins were the mainstay and featured on almost every look throughout the 34-piece collection. Simple loose-fitting T-shirt dresses and spaghetti-strap slips were covered with matte sequins in shades of inky blue, gunmetal, black and ivory, while jersey bomber jackets and sweatpants rippled with golden tinsel. One oversized white T-shirt alone bore 12,407 hand-applied sequins.

Ashish was one of the last designers to take to the catwalk yesterday afternoon, marking the end of a season of shows at London Fashion Week.
