Farmworker tests negative for H5N1

A farmworker has tested negative for the H5N1 bird flu virus after complaining of respiratory symptoms, Government health officials said.

The worker underwent checks at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, overnight, after complaining of feeling ill.

The Health Protection Agency said the worker had been at the Bernard Matthews Farm in Holton, Suffolk, where bird flu was confirmed on Friday.

But an HPA spokesman said on Thursday that tests on the worker had proved negative.
