Festival crowd to enjoy free fringe

12 April 2012

Thousands of festival goers are enjoying the cream of Edinburgh's Fringe for free.

The annual Fringe Sunday event sees more than 100 performers take to The Meadows area of Scotland's capital, attracting crowds of 200,000-plus.

A mixture of shows, art displays, craft stalls, music and children's activities gives spectators a taste of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

And this year youngsters will get the chance to display their creative talents as they compete to write the best review of the show.

The Fringe Junior Press Gang award aims to introduce children aged 9 to 11 to art criticism.

A shortlist of entrants from 10 Edinburgh schools will file reviews from Fringe Sunday.

The winner will see their work appear in the Edinburgh Evening News and receive a laptop donated by Bank of Scotland.

This year also sees the introduction of the Fringe Sunday Stage School Tent, which offers free drama workshops to children of all ages.
