The “floor is lava” internet craze taking the country by storm is putting lives at risk with children running into roads and climbing window, parents have claimed.

The bizarre video craze, which started on YouTube, sees friends challenging each other to get off the ground as quickly as possible when someone shouts “the floor is lava”.

But people have reported seeing children jump onto the bonnets of moving cars, with some parents worried it will result in serious injuries.

Mother Susan Davies, 37, from Woking, said she was horrified when she saw her son run into a busy road after his older sister challenged him while playing the game.

She told the Sun: “He was so panicked about getting off the pavement he didn't even think. Thankfully, there were no cars coming otherwise I dread to think what could've happened.”

Clips uploaded online have shown people lying down on supermarket shelves, jumping on tables at restaurants and running over car bonnets.

Friends have been challenging each other at the most inopportune moments in a bid to catch each other out.

A clip was uploaded online of one man running into a public fountain when challenged by friends.

A charity has also warned of the dangers of the viral craze, claiming it should only be played in a suitable area.

Nathan Davies, of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), said: “Parents and adults should encourage children to play similar games in a suitable area, like a playground with safe climbing structures for safe play.”
