Viewers were left in tears after watching Kate Garraway’s emotional documentary ‘Caring for Derek’.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, was inundated with praise after giving a glimpse into her family’s life as she cares for her husband Derek Draper who has been dealing with the long-term health effects of coronavirus.
Derek, 54, a former lobbyist has had an ongoing battle Covid after he was hospitalised during the first wave of the pandemic in March 2020.
Those watching the ITV documentary on Tuesday were moved to tears by her family’s situation, including a clip of when Derek’s son Billy was able to hug his father for the first time since his ordeal began.

Meanwhile, others wanted to thank Kate for sharing her experience and praised her making the documentary.
One person said: “You and Derek are amazing, thankyou for doing this. It can’t be easy to put your life on show but the education and information you are giving to people is fantastic.”

In the documentary, Kate gives a glimpse into her daily routine caring for husband Derek, with whom she shares two children, and outlined the “vast amount” she needs to do in order to look after him.
Derek now sleeps up to 20 hours a day, with the TV host admitting she wakes up every two hours at night to help his carers move him around their bed.
She also revealed she can change the former lobbyist’s bed linen up to seven times a day.
During the documentary, Kate is at home with Derek and their children Darcey, 15, and William, 12, and is seen lifting Derek in and out of a special bed.
In another part of the episode, Derek is seen sitting in a wheelchair as he shares some quality moments with his family.
