The Duchess of Cambridge said today that she “couldn’t wait” to meet her new niece Lilibet.
Kate met US First Lady Jill Biden in Cornwall on Thursday and the pair visited a primary school where they took part in a round table discussion with experts on the importance of the early years of childhood.
Asked by a broadcast journalist if she had any wishes for Lilibet, Kate said: “I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her.
“We haven’t met yet. I hope that will be soon.”
Asked if she had FaceTimed with her, Kate still smiling uncomfortably, admitted: “No I haven’t, no.”
White House aides and Kensington Palace officials then swiftly moved to end the impromptu press conference, asking journalists to leave the classroom.
Kate and Dr Biden, an English professor and former high school teacher, made a joint visit to Connor Downs Academy in Hayle, Cornwall, during the first day of the G7 Summit at Carbis Bay in Cornwall.
The Duchess, wearing an Alexander McQueen outfit, and Dr Biden first visited the school’s Reception Class to hear how its pupils are supported through a bespoke Early Years Foundation Stage designed to help the children develop as independent, confident and successful learners.
Kate, 39, and the First Lady, 70, also joined children taking part in a number of classroom activities.
Connor Downs Academy, which teaches children aged 4-11, is a member of the Aspire Academy Trust group of 28 primary schools across Cornwall.
The Duchess and Dr Biden then led a discussion with a number of representatives from the early years sector who have helped influence Kate’s efforts to create a national conversation that gives every child in Britain a better start.
