Former Chelsea and Brighton striker Leon Knight has launched an astonishing foul-mouthed tirade at female football pundits.

The 35-year-old, who has played for 15 different clubs, said “this equal rights b*** has to stop” and told women pundits they can “f*** right off”.

His ten-tweet rant appeared to be aimed at former Arsenal player Alex Scott as she appeared alongside Jamie Redknapp and Jamie Carragher for Sky Sports’ coverage of England versus Switzerland on Tuesday.

Knight, who grew up in Hackney and came through Chelsea’s youth system, said: “Might be a unpopular shout but I got something to say and I couldn’t be more serious : I DONT WANNA SEE ANOTHER WOMAN TALKING FOOTBALL IN DETAIL ON SKY SPORTS OR BT SPORT. F*** OFF!

“AND I MEAN IT, F*** RIGHT OFF. Do u know how many f***ing ballers their is without jobs that could talk properly on certain events that’s gone on in the game.... they got this f***ing girl with weave in talking football.”

He went on to say: “Just like we can’t give birth u lot can’t kick or talk ball.”

The striker added that he “ain’t sexist at all” before finishing: “I’ll rather hear a Non league player commentate and talk about the game in the studio in detail then a woman who’s played women’s football and that’s just being real.”

The tweets have divided the footballer’s fans on Twitter, with some praising his honesty but others labelling him a “sexist pig”.

Knight had his most prolific spell at Brighton from 2003 to 2006, before going on to play for teams including Swansea, Wycombe Wanderers and Coleraine in Northern Ireland.
