A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a baby boy was stabbed.
Police said the two-month-old was found at a house in Alfred Road, in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, at around 10.45pm on Friday.
He had received several stab wounds and is in hospital where his condition is described as life-threatening, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.
Officers arrested a 37-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and he is in custody helping with police inquiries.
A force spokesman said: "Police are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.
"Police have a team of detectives investigating and forensic scene investigators remain at the address gathering evidence this morning. A family liaison officer has also been appointed to work with the family during this difficult period."
One woman, who did not wish to be named, said she did not hear or see any of the emergency services in the area of the house where the boy was injured on Friday night.
She said: "It was about 11 or 11.30 last night when I went upstairs and looked out of the window, there were just a lot of people standing around quietly. I didn't know what had gone on but I heard that the police had come late on last night."
She said there had been little disruption on the small street, which is often busy with traffic that cuts down Alfred Road to bypass the main Rookery Road, and many of the residents were still unsure what had taken place.
She added: "I hope the little boy will be okay. It's such a shame, what has a two-month-old baby done to deserve that?"
