12 April 2012

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a financial adviser shot dead on his doorstep in Northern Ireland, police said.

Geoff Kerr was shot dead at his County Antrim home on Monday night after two bogus Chinese takeaway delivery men forced their way in.

The 60-year-old struggled with one of the intruders before he was shot in the chest and was killed instantly.

The suspect will appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Monday morning. Another two men and two women remain in custody.

Mr Kerr, a father-of-four who ran a mortgage advisory business, and his wife Sally moved to Templepatrick from Ballymena about 18 months ago.
