Manchester Airport: Terminal locked down and passengers evacuated after 'suspicious bag' found

Manchester Airport: Terminal evacuated after 'suspicious bag found'
Craig Hannah

Part of Manchester Airport was evacuated after a suspicious bag was found in a terminal, with passengers reporting a police swoop.

Crowds of holidaymakers were pictured gathered outside Terminal 2 after staff declared travellers must leave the building.

An evacuation of the terminal was carried out as officers investigate the unattended bag found.

A spokesman for the airport said the evacuation was “standard procedure”.

The airport has since confirmed the bag was declared safe.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: “After the discovery of an unattended bag, parts of Terminal Two were evacuated as a precaution, while an examination was carried out.

“The bag has now been cleared by Greater Manchester Police and we will now begin the process of re-opening the terminal."
