Nando’s restaurants up and down the country ran out of chicken over the New Year’s bank holiday, angry diners claim.

Branches including Dalston, Bedford, Aylesbury and Leamington-Spa were hit by a shortage of their signature meat, restaurant-goers claimed on social media.

Lillie Bleasdale wrote on Twitter: “This is an SOS. Leamington Nando’s has run out of chicken.”

Another user tweeting under the handle @Cduffinhall wrote: “How are Nando’s in Aylesbury closed because they have no chicken HAHAHA”

A user tweeting as Maddie wrote: "How has my local Nando's run out of chicken?...."

And @leonieb53 tweeted: “@NandosUK #dalston how can nandos run out of their signature meat? What do u mean you’ve RUN OUT of chicken fillets whilst I’m sitting here”

Sunny C posted a picture of a takeaway menu with all dishes marked “sold out” adding the caption: “@NandosUk @HeartShopping how can u run out of chicken!”

Jon Hammond wrote on Twitter: “@NandosUK goodbye dinner with the boys and Aylesbury have RUN OUT OF CHICKEN #Nandos #Fail #2017 #FirstWorldProblems”

A spokesman for the restaurant chain said it was that the branch in Aylesbury had run out of the meat but could not comment on the other complaints.

The Aylesbury branch of the Portuguese chain, which prides itself on its Peri-Peri chicken, was reportedly caught short after a lack of deliveries over the New Year’s bank holiday.

Diners complained it had taken several dishes off the menu because of a lack of poultry.

A Nando’s spokesman said: “It seems Aylesbury residents chose chicken over turkey this Christmas!

“We’re sorry to any customers affected on the day, and are pleased to confirm that the restaurant was soon replenished.”
