One dead, one injured in shooting

A man has been killed and another injured ina shooting in south London

One man died and another is in a critical condition following a shooting in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The shooting took place in Thornton Heath, south London, at around 5am, the Met Police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was aged in his 30s. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead.

Another man, aged in his 20s, is described as being in a critical condition.

The shooting is being dealt with by detectives from the Met's Operation Trident - the unit which investigates gun crime in the black community.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to Queen's Road in Thornton Heath to reports of a shooting.

"Two men were taken to hospital, one man in his 30s was pronounced dead and the second man in his 20s is in a critical condition."

No arrests have yet been made.
