PJs aimed at raising funds for mental health struggles

The gender-neutral Pjoys will feature graffiti designs

A pyjama brand raising awareness and funds to help people struggling with mental health issues launched today.

New gender-neutral Pjoys will feature graffiti designs “delivering mental health messaging”, a percentage of all proceeds will go to the Samaritans, and the charity’s helpline number will appear on all care labels and packaging. Inspirational stories will also be posted for customers on the Pjoys website.

The Crowdfund-sponsored brand comes from EY Entrepreneur of the Year Michelle Morgan, who came up with the idea after experiencing her own burnout, anxiety and depression.

During recovery Ms Morgan wondered if she could take the symbolism of “the PJ day” - both good and bad - and use it to help make mental health an everyday conversation.

She said: “I had worked hard, too hard perhaps, for too long to deliver more than my best as both as a business woman and lead and as a mother and partner. I was fighting to demonstrate to ‘the world’ that I could be utterly brilliant at all things, but the truth is that had a negative impact on both my physical and mental health.

“At the time of my burnout I was told it was awkward when I talked about my mental health, which was crushing and silencing... But as I began to recover and started feeling brave enough to talk about my experience, I quickly realised that talking about our mental health really doesn’t need to feel like an awkward conversation.

“I believe that talking about our mental health more easily and openly is rooted in business benefits and is an essential element of creating inclusive cultures, which we know make for stronger businesses.”

First collaborations on organic cotton pyjamas, t-shirts and accessories will come from artists Remi Rough, Augustine Kofie, Nicky Hirst and Claudia Walde, aka. MadC.
