A police force is giving away its custody suite doors which it claims would be suited to a "teenager's bedroom" or a "former detainee nostalgic for old days".

The Isles of Scilly Police advertised the old doors after the cells at St Mary's Police Station were renovated.

The force shared a photograph of a rather decrepit-looking door on its official Facebook page today.

Sergeant Colin Taylor wrote: "Free to collect. One careful owner. They are quarter of a century old in virtually pristine condition.

"Would suit teenagers bedroom or former detainee nostalgic for the old days."

He went on to say that officers were "hugely excited" at the prospect of showing offenders around the new custody cells, which come with their own "ensuite toilets".

Describing the suites, he said: "They include a bed, well hard shelf actually but if you are chilly we will throw in a blanket.

"CCTV in both rooms to be watched by because when you are with us you get our undivided attention.

"An intercom to the concierge at the custody desk.

"On request it will be their pleasure to provide a plastic cup with what some people call tea, a book about the law with no pictures and access to a human called a solicitor".

The police force has become a favourite on Facebook with its often tongue-in-cheek posts.

It has gathered an impressive following of more than 50,000 Facebook users, despite the Isles, an archipelago next to the Cornish peninsula, only being home to about 2000 people.
