Police search Jackson doctor's home

12 April 2012

The home of Michael Jackson's doctor has been searched by federal investigators following claims he gave the singer a powerful anaesthetic hours before he died.

Officials, believed to be from the Drug Enforcement Agency, entered Dr Conrad Murray's home and office in Las Vegas. Last week they raided his surgery in the city.

The search followed reports that police believe Dr Murray gave the pop star propofol, a clinical anaesthetic, to make him sleep shortly before he died.

Officers are working on the theory that the powerful sedative may have caused his heart to stop.

Murray, who is licensed in California, Nevada and Texas, was Michael Jackson's personal physician and was with the King of Pop when he died.

Police said Murray was co-operating and have not labelled him a suspect.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation into the singer's death says Murray told investigators he administered the powerful anaesthetic that authorities believe killed the pop star.

The official, who requested anonymity because the probe is ongoing, said that Dr Conrad Murray said he gave Jackson propofol the day he died. Murray said he had administered the drug several times previously to help Jackson sleep.

The official said police found propofol and various sedatives in a walk-in closet in Jackson's room. Propofol is only supposed to be administered in medical settings.

Murray's lawyer has said the doctor did not prescribe or administer anything that should have killed Jackson.
