Talent winners hail gracious Boyle

12 April 2012

Members of dance group Diversity have heaped praise on runner-up Susan Boyle after their shock victory in the Britain's Got Talent final.

The 11-member troupe, from Essex, said the singer - a hot favourite to win the competition - was even more magnanimous backstage than she was in front of the cameras.

Choreographer Ashley Banjo, 20, said: "She was so gracious about it, she said the best act won and backstage she said she saw something special. She was so nice about it."

Banjo said he was confident she would have a "great career" anyway and had prepared a congratulatory speech because it appeared so likely she would win.

The group - founded in Dagenham, at a street dance studio run by Banjo's mother Danielle - won a £100,000 cash prize as part of their victory in a final watched by more than 15 million viewers.

Their previous biggest fee was £150 to appear in a fashion show at an Essex shopping centre in Essex.

Diversity took 24.9% of the public vote, above Boyle's 20.2% share, while saxophonist Julian Smith was third with 16.4%.

Group member Terry Smith, 24, volunteered to kiss the 48-year-old spinster, who reportedly had her first smooch with judge Piers Morgan.

Boyle is now tipped to make millions from a singing career, and bookies are already predicting a number one chart hit in America.

The 48-year-old from Blackburn, West Lothian, appeared on Oprah Winfrey's TV show after millions of people logged on to YouTube to watch her spine-tingling Britain's Got Talent audition.
