Air accident investigators are probing a tourist plane crash in Venezuela which killed a British boy.
Eight other UK nationals were injured when the light aircraft came down near Canaima in the south of the country, killing a boy named as Thomas Horne, six, who was travelling with his parents.
Civil protection director Luis Diaz said the plane, a Cessna - which was bound for Angel Falls, a popular tourist destination in the area - crashed near the runway shortly after take-off.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said those injured in the crash had been airlifted to hospital in Cuidad Bolivar, the nearest town to Canaima. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The boy's aunt and uncle, June and Chris Holman, said his parents, Dave and Jane Horne, were devastated and asked for privacy.
Mrs Holman said: "Following the tragic death of Thomas, the thoughts of us all are with his parents Jane and Dave at this very sad time.
"There is nothing worse than losing a loved one, especially not a young child with their whole life ahead of them."
The expedition to Angel Falls had been organised by tour operator First Choice.
A spokeswoman for the holiday company said a probe into the crash was under way.
She added: "We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to family and friends during this deeply sad time."
