Breathtaking NASA images show America's National Parks from the International Space Station

NASA has shared incredible images showing America’s National Parks from space.

The remarkable photographs were taken from the International Space Station (ISS) over the last two years and reveal breathtaking aerial views of some of the Earth’s most beautiful landscapes.

Among the collection are images of The Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon, Yosemite and Death Valley, and active volcano Mount St Helens.

The contrasting scenery of Alaska's Glacier Bay and Florida's Everglades are also included.

The photos include striking composites that piece together miles of mountain ranges or deserts.

The latest image, a clear view of Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state, was taken by astronaut Ricky Arnold on Wednesday as the ISS orbited above at about 17,500 miles per hour.

Arnold shared the image with his 23,000 Twitter followers to celebrate National Park Week, quoting the thoughts of 'Father of the National Parks' US naturalist John Muir on Mount Ranier.

"Doubly happy, however, is the man to whom lofty mountain tops are within reach, for the lights that shine there illumine all that lies below," he wrote.

Arnold often tweets extraordinary images of different parts of the Earth.

He recently shared a snap of the River Nile and its delta and coral atolls off the Maldives, from his vantage point aboard the ISS.

Other photographs in the National Park collection were taken in 2016 by astronaut Jeff Williams.
