A plane was forced to make an unplanned stop after a row erupted between two passengers over legroom in the cabin.

The American Airlines flight from Miami to Paris was grounded in Boston after the pair began quarrelling over how far back one of them had reclined their seat.

Edmond Alexandre, 61, a French national, is understood to have accused his fellow passenger of leaving him with not enough space.

But he was subsequently arrested over allegations that he grabbed a flight attendant's arm who had intervened in the dispute on Wednesday evening.

He was escorted from the plane by air marshals and later charged with interfering with a flight crew, according reports by ABC News.

The news follows an incident on an United Airlines flight last weekend in which a passenger was unable to recline her seat because a man sitting behind had fastened a 'knee defender' device to his tray table.
