Awkward moment couple 'romping on beach' interrupt BBC Olympics presenter Dan Walker

This is the awkward moment BBC Olympics presenter Dan Walker was left red-faced by a couple getting intimate on the beach behind him.

Walker was hosting a round-up of the day’s Rio 2016 action when social media viewers spotted what looked like two people having sex to the left of shot.

The 39-year-old struggled to hold back the laughter after spotting the amorous scene, assuring viewers that the pair were merely “reading a book in a strange pose.”

He then stated that the camera would not be zooming in on the unregulated sporting activity.

Walker said: “For those asking what’s going on in the background on social media now, we’re not going to zoom in but rest assured, it’s not that.

“Apparently they are reading a book in a strange pose.

“We’ll find out what the book is maybe a little bit later on,” he added.

The Football Focus presenter clearly saw the funny side and later tweeted: “It’s live TV. Anything can happen!”

It is not the first hiccup that the BBC has had to deal with so far in Rio.

Gold medal-winning Andy Murray had to put John Inverdale in his place after the presenter claimed the Scot was the first person to win two Olympic golds for tennis.

The singles champion quickly realised the presenter was forgetting the existence of the Williams sisters, telling him: "Venus and Serena have won four each.”
