A model who took to the catwalk while breastfeeding her daughter has been hailed as 'inspiring.'

Mara Martin carried her five-month-old daughter Aria during a Sports Illustrated swimsuit show.

She was one of 16 finalists chosen to take part in the show alongside other women including paralympian Brenna Huckaby.

Following her appearance on Sunday, many people sent her messages of support, thanking her for "normalising" breastfeeding.

She was found during an open casting call at Miami Swim Week and given a spot on the catwalk.

Ms Martin was pictured wearing a gold bikini while carrying baby Aria, who wore headphones to protect her from the noise of the crowd and the music.

Many people took to social media to praise her appearance at the swimwear show.

In response, she wrote on her Instagram page: "I can't believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day. It is truly so humbling and unreal to say the least.

"I'm so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!"

"But to be honest, the real reason I can't believe it is a headline is because it shouldn't be a headline!! My story of being a mother and feeding her while walking is just that.

"Last night there are far more deserving headlines that our world should see."
