David Blaine will attempt to fly to New York from New Jersey using helium balloons.

Blaine, 45, is known for high-profile stunts such as being buried underground for seven days without food or water in New York in 1999.

In 2002 he spent 40 days without food in a plexiglass case suspended 30ft above the Thames River in London.

His latest stunt "Ascension" will be broadcast on Youtube as part of its "Youtube Originals" series on August 31.

Promoting the event on Twitter, Blaine wrote: "This stunt has been 10 years in the making.

"Let's turn worry into wonder and take magic to new heights.

"#DavidBlaineAscension, August 31st only on @YouTube. Join me on the ascent."

Mr Blaine's other stunts have included being buried in a clear coffin for one week in 1999, and standing atop a 30-metre pillar without a safety net for 36 hours straight in 2002, both in New York City.
