Fireworks and lightning make electrifying Independence Day show

Lightning adds to the spectacle of Independence Day fireworks in Pittsburgh. There was also a huge display in New York, where the Statue of Liberty reopened eight months after it was shut by Superstorm Sandy.

In Washington the Obamas hosted a barbeque for military families.

At Coney Island, Joey Chestnut wolfed down 69 hot dogs to break a world record and win the July 4 Hot Dog Eating Contest for a seventh year.
