One of Meredith Kercher’s killers is to be allowed to leave jail to attend a university course.

Rudy Guede, who is serving 16 years for the murder of the student from Coulsdon, Surrey, will be let out of prison for short periods to pursue a history degree.

Guede, 27, was found guilty of the killing at a separate trial after his DNA was found on the 21-year-old’s body. He is currently the only one behind bars for the murder. Guede’s lawyer Walter Biscotti said the killer was entitled to partial freedom.

He said: “If the English and Meredith’s family are upset about this I don’t know what to say...it’s the law.

“He is a model prisoner, who is currently studying for a history degree in jail. The law now gives Rudy the right to be released for a few hours to see friends and family, but he has not asked permission yet.”
