Poland bomb hoax: Hundreds evacuated after 20 false email threats

25 June 2013

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from hospitals, courts, police stations and prosecutors' offices across Poland because of more than 20 apparently false bomb threats sent by email.

Police said no explosives were found and there were no explosions at noon as the emails threatened. One hospital in southern Poland was fully evacuated.

Evacuees were allowed to return to their buildings this afternoon.

Polish Interior Minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz says there was no danger to anybody's life or health and that the threats were a case of "unbelievable cheek" given the unprecedented scale.

A false bomb threat leading to a major disruption carries a maximum prison sentence of eight years.
