Tesla's new 'Cybertruck' was trending on social media today - but not always for the right reasons.

The brand new electronic car was unveiled last night at an event in Los Angeles during which the "bulletproof" car's windows were smashed in a demonstration gone-wrong.

A video of the botched demo emerged showing the moment the car's designer threw a metal ball at the window only for it to shatter.

Owner Elon Musk then had to stand in front of a damaged truck for the rest of the presentation. "Room for improvement," he joked.

Now, the electric car has become the target of hundreds of hilarious tweets and memes, with several comparing it to an old banged up car.

Others are likening it to the 'disastrous' car built for Homer Simpson in The Simpsons second season.

While others say its angular design reminds them of old school video game cars.

Some people are just not sure what to make of the futuristic armoured truck which is said to be able to get from 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds and travel 500 miles on one charge.

But, while it is very much a matter of personal taste, it seems many will not be rushing to pre-order the six-seater Tesla starts at a price of $39,900.
