If you thought Brighton on a summer's day was overcrowded, these pictures will give you pause of thought.

The astonishing images show tens of thousands of holidaymakers crowding a beach resort to cool off on a scorching day in China.

Families desperate to escape the 30C heat had grabbed their beach parasols and rubber rings to jostle for space at the beach resort in northeast China’s Liaoning province.

The images show hundreds of swimmers floating almost shoulder to shoulder on inflatable dinghies and lilos in the sea in the Dalian city.
