Broad out of warm-up game

Stuart Broad
15 March 2012

Stuart Broad was a late injury withdrawal from the first warm-up match of England's tour of Sri Lanka.

The seam bowler was named in the starting side for the game against a Sri Lanka Board XI at Premadasa Stadium but sprained his left ankle after tripping over a boundary rope in fielding practice.

He was replaced in the team by Steven Finn.

England are not concerned about Broad's fitness beyond the current match and have not yet sent him for scans.

Ravi Bopara got the nod at number six, edging out fellow all-rounder Samit Patel and getting the first chance to push his claims for the first Test in Galle on March 26.

Play was due to start at 10am local time but was delayed for an hour due to a wet outfield following overnight storms.
