Froome wants to be number one

Chris Froome has no intention of playing second fiddle to Sir Bradley Wiggins but has instead targeted up to seven wins in the Tour de France.

Wiggins, who beat Froome into second place last year, had stated earlier this year that he wanted to go for victory rather than playing a supporting role for his fellow Briton and Team Sky rider, as were team orders. Any conflict between the pair was averted when Wiggins withdrew from the Tour last month citing illness and injury.

However, Froome has made his intentions clear and they do not involve playing a supporting role in the future. He told The Times: "I've got my goals and personally where I want to go is to target the Tour, not just this year but for the next six or seven years."

Froome added: "And each time to line up at the Tour ready to try and contend for the yellow jersey. I am driven by that goal."
