Olympic champion Jason Kenny suffered an embarrassing early elimination from the men's sprint on the final day of the Track World Cup in Manchester after failing to negotiate qualification.

The flying 200metres which seeds riders for the one-on-one match sprints is usually something of a formality for British riders and particularly someone of Kenny's calibre.

Sixteen of the 41-rider field advanced to the first round, but the 25-year-old from Bolton was not one of them after qualifying in 10.154 seconds, good enough only to place 24th.

Kenny, who was fourth in the Keirin on day two, was not the only big-name absentee from the knockout stages as world record holder Kevin Sireau finished in 41st place in 10.573secs.

Germany's Robert Forstemann was the fastest qualifier in 9.799 as nine riders clocked beneath 10 seconds in a fast qualification.

Kenny's team-mate Matt Crampton was 10th-fastest in 10.015.

Crampton beat Australian Peter Lewis in the first round to advance to the best-of-three quarter-finals.

Laura Trott was second in the fourth of six disciplines in the women's omnium, the three-kilometre individual pursuit.

The London 2012 champion clocked three minutes 34.293 seconds in the event to move up to third overall with two disciplines remaining.

World champion Becky James won her heat in the women's Keirin to advance to the second round.
