George Best has been sitting up and talking again 48 hours after lapsing into a coma.

However his consultant, Professor Roger Williams, warned Best's kidneys had "borne the brunt" of his month-long stint in intensive care at the private Cromwell Hospital in west London.

Best, 59, who has been fighting for his life since being admitted with flulike symptoms, was today described as "stable".

Best's first wife Angie visited him today and his father Dickie is expected at the weekend.
