Dancing duo Ashleigh and Pudsey have been slammed by The Kennel Club for their ‘demeaning’ routines.

The twosome won this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent, becoming a sensation overnight after lovable pup Pudsey performed tricks alongside his owner Ashleigh.

Now the Club, which is the governing body for dogs, has introduced a series of rules restricting the dance moves that dogs can perform.

It has outlawed moves which are ‘extreme’ or ‘unnatural’.

Kennel Club secretary Caroline Kisko added: "They are going to have to look to other types of moves in order to make an impact. The priority is the dog's safety.

"We are trying to stop what we would see as demeaning for the dog."

However, the RSPCA has claimed that learning tricks is ‘positive’ for a dog and dog dancing has increased in popularity since the show.

Pudsey is a border collie, bichon fries and Chinese crested cross, and became the nation’s sweetheart through his adorable and impressive dance routines.

He jumped off the judge’s table and on to Ashleigh’s shoulders to the Mission: Impossible theme tune, and danced on his hind legs.
