The cast of Buffy The Vampire Slayer have reunited 16 years after the show’s final episode aired – but fans couldn’t help but notice one major absence from the line-up.

Eleven stars from the hit supernatural drama, which ran from 1997 until 2003, appeared on stage at the Oregon Convention Centre for comic book convention Wizard World Portland.

Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander on the show, shared a series of photos from the event on his Instagram page, including a group shot featuring his on-screen girlfriend Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Alyson Hannigan (Willow) and James Marsters (Spike).

Amber Benson (Tara), Julie Benz (Darla), Lyari Limon (Kennedy), Amy Acker (Fred), James Leary (Clem), Clare Kramer (Glory) and Alexis Denisof (Wesley) were also in the reunion snap.

He captioned the post: “Witches, demons, vampires, watchers, slayer, Gods and Scoobies oh my!”

Further snaps showed Brendon posing alongside Hannigan and hugging Carpenter.

Fans were filled with nostalgia to see the cast back together and described the snap as “amazing,” with one of Brendon’s followers suggesting that “magic has been involved in the ageing process.”

“What a great photo. How one photo can bring so many teenage memories back,” another wrote.

Others, however, were quick to point out that the gathering was missing one very famous face, as lead actress Sarah Michelle Gellar was not in attendance.

“How do you have a reunion without Buffy?” one Instagram user asked.

“That’s cool everyone else showed but the main characters not being there kind of puts a hole in the cake,” another wrote.

“Too bad it was missing someone… but you are all wonderful and I hope you had a good time together,” a third added.

Showrunner Joss Whedon joked about his absence from the reunion in a Twitter post, in which he Photoshopped a reunion snap onto the cover of Mindy Kaling’s book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

It was confirmed last year that a Buffy reboot is currently in the works, with Whedon set to return as executive producer and Monica Owusu-Breen joining as writer and showrunner.

The planned re-make is set to star a woman of colour in the lead role in order for the series to feel “richly diverse,” the producers said.
