Claudia Winkleman's sister Sophie 'seriously injured in head-on car crash'

Claudia Winkleman’s actress sister has been injured in a “head-on” car crash, according to reports.

The Strictly Come Dancing host’s 37-year-old sister Sophie is undergoing treatment for a suspected broken back and broken foot, the Daily Mail reported.

The source told the newspaper that Sophie, who married Lord Frederick Windsor in 2009, faces weeks of recovery following the smash which happened ten days ago.

The actress was said to have been returning from filming new American TV series Trust when another car ploughed head-on into her chauffeur-driven vehicle as the driver swerved to avoid a deer.

Five ambulance crews, including an air ambulance, rushed to the crash near Saffron Walden, Essex, the Daily Mail reported.

She was first taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, along with the drivers of both vehicles, before being transferred to London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

The source told the newspaper: “It was a terrible shock for the whole family. Freddie’s looking after their two girls while Sophie recovers. It will be a long road for her, but we’re all so thankful that she’s been told there won’t be any long-term problems.”
