David Bowie’s The Man Who Fell to Earth is going to be shown in cinemas to mark its 40th anniversary.

Nicolas Roeg’s cult sci-fi film, which was originally released back in 1976, will screen across cinemas in UK this September.

According to Pitchfork, STUDIOCANAL has given the film a 4k restoration for the occasion and will also make it available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray in October.

Bowie’s film could also be released in cinemas in the US and in Germany to celebrate its milestone.

The music icon, who passed away in January, starred as Thomas Jerome Newtown in the film, an alien who comes to Earth to get water to take back to his own planet.

Since Bowie’s death earlier this year, there have been a number of public tributes to the star, including a number of special performances at Glastonbury.

The Pyramid Stage was decorated with a lightning bolt in honour of the singer, while a flash mob of Bowie fans organised their own event within the festival.

Dubbed GlastonBowie, a group of die-hard fans congregated to belt out some of the star’s best loved tracks including Rebel Rebel.

Last month a lock of Bowie’s hair sold for an impressive £13,700 at an auction house in Beverly Hills.
