Ed Sheeran has written a ballad which will feature on One Direction's next album.

The group have previously worked with the Drunk singer on Moments and Little Things and the star has confirmed another one of his songs will feature on their upcoming album Four.

Ed told MTV News: "I got a call from [Simon] Cowell the other day. But you never know, it might happen last minute where it's taken off, like that's how it works in this industry, so you never know."

The 23-year-old singer previously revealed he had written a "whole lot of... completely different" songs for the band, including one which had a "stadium rock" sound, but One Direction say the chosen track is less uptempo, with Louis Tomlinson describing it as "more slow then stadium rock."

Zayn Malik added: "The one that he wrote, more of a ballad. But I think we are going in that kind of lane. It sounds cool, we'll take that."

Ed has previously spoken of how much he enjoys spending time with the Best Song Ever hitmakers, in particular Harry Styles.

He said: "I see Harry the most and probably get on with him best just because I see him the most and he was the first one that I met.

"I've known him the longest and we've shared a lot of mutual friends so probably Harry."
