Ed Sheeran has debuted a huge new tattoo on his chest, in an apparent tribute to Cecil the Lion.

The pop star surprised fans with a snap of the large inking in an Instagram post on Tuesday, admitting that the design was only half complete.

Sheeran, who has a number of tattoos covering his arms, admitted that his latest one was painful as is covered his entire chest.

He captioned the snap: “Lion is courtesy of @kp_est78, who puts up with me complaining about the pain.”

While the 24-year-old didn’t reveal the meaning behind the enormous tattoo, many followers took it to be a portrait of murdered Cecil.

Sheeran’s lion was inked by tattooist to the stars Kevin Paul, who has created designs for Harry Styles and Dappy in the past.

The Lego House singer has stayed tight-lipped as rumours about his love life started spreading this week.

While reports suggested that the British star was dating Nicole Scherzinger, a rep for the former Pussycat Doll has refuted the claims.

The rep told The Sun: “There has been nothing romantic about the two performers' get-togethers.”
