Gavin Rossdale on joining The Voice: ‘I think it’s bizarre that I even got asked – I’m so far out of my comfort zone’

Gavin Rossdale thinks that it’s ‘bizarre’ that he was asked to join the new series of The Voice.

The bush frontman, who briefly appeared on the US version of the show with ex-wife Gwen Stefani, is finding himself ‘out of his comfort zone’.

Speaking at the official launch of the brand new series, Rossdale admitted that a main draw for him was being able to spend a lot of time in the UK.

“I just think that was just so out of my comfort zone and so bizarre that I even got asked that I thought it was a really good opportunity to come to England a lot,” he said at the show’s official launch on Wednesday.

“I did some time on The Voice in America and I was taken aback by how emotionally connected you get to the contestants so I just knew that it would be a great experience,” he added.

“And then when it was Tom, Will, Jennifer I could see it was a real classy cast of cultures and sometimes in life you've just got to take that leap and jump and so here I am.”

Rossdale was a surprise addition to the brand new line-up, which also includes newcomer Jennifer Hudson and returnees Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones.

Sir Tom has been reinstated now that the show has moved to ITV, after being unceremoniously dropped by the BBC in 2015.

“I was p***** off,” he recently told the Radio Times. “I never got to the bottom of who made the decision.

“It was between the production company Wall to Wall and the BBC, and I still don’t know why.”

The new series of The Voice kicks off this Saturday on ITV at 8pm.
