David Walliams has waded in to the Sir Bruce Forsyth and Simon Cowell debate about children appearing in talent shows.

The Britain's Got Talent judge defended his fellow panellist Simon - who clashed with the 85-year-old star recently after he criticised BGT for allowing young contestants - by saying he would have been "desperate" to appear on the show if he was as talented as 14-year-old finalist Jack Carroll at his age.

He wrote on Twitter: "As for kids taking part on #BGT if I'd had the talent of @fatjacko at 14 (or even now) I would have desperately wanted to be on the show.

"#BGT is a huge opportunity to launch a a career, win a huge amount of money and perform before the Queen (Elizabeth not @SimonCowell ) (sic)"

David then backed up his own argument by saying 28-year-old contestant Alice Fredenham - who reportedly suffered a panic attack after she performed during the live 'BGT' semi-final on Tuesday night before being told she hadn't got through to the final - went "to pieces" on the show.

He tweeted: "The only contestant to go to pieces on this series of #BGT was Alice Fredenham. She is 28."
