Katie Hopkins appears to have revealed that she identifies as bisexual – but said she was never given the chance to experiment.

Hopkins, 41, opened up about her sexuality during an interview with Angela Scanlon for her Close Encounters series on the BBC.

Responding to Scanlon's comment that she believes Hopkins would swing both ways she replied: “I would definitely swing both ways given the freedom to do that. I’ve never been offered.”

The controversial columnist – who attended the military academy at Sandhurst – also said she views herself as “more of a bloke” and said she prefers to be surrounded by men as opposed to women.

“I think I prefer working round blokes because they are much more simple to understand than women,” she said. “Women exhaust me.”

The Mail Online columnist – who was forced to leave the armed forces because of epilepsy – dismissed suggestions that her dream was to become a “tabloid tart”.

"Only a lunatic would make that their dream," she said. "For me 35 years regular commission [in the] army - first female general that's the dream."

She said she was "crushed" on being told that she was to leave the armed forces but said she has no regrets.

She told Scanlon. "I dont have regrets but if I could change something I wouldn't have epilepsy, I'd be in the army and I'd be the first female general."
