Hundreds of fans “raised the roof” as they lined the streets of Braintree, Essex to say a final goodbye to The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint.

The singer, famed for his colourful punk hairstyle, was found dead at his home in Dunmow on March 4. He was 49.

His bandmate Liam Howlett later confirmed he had taken his own life.

Fans travelled from Skegness and as far afield as Prague and New York to pay their respects ahead of this afternoon’s service at St Mary’s Church.

Another attended in the boiler suit Flint wore in the group’s 1992 music video for Outer Space while a group of Prodigy fans started a rave on board a train to the band’s 1994 track Break and Enter.

Wreaths in the shape of the band’s ant logo were laid outside as fans awaited the funeral procession which will start at 3pm. It will start on Courtauld Road in Braintree and make its way to St Mary’s Church in Bocking.

“Fans are invited to line the procession route, starting at 3pm in Braintree, Essex on Friday 29th March, to pay their final respects & 'raise the roof' for Keef Flint,” it read.

“The church service will just be for family and close friends, but there will be speakers relaying the ceremony outside the church for everyone to hear.”

An inquest which opened on March 11 confirmed that Flint died as the result of hanging. It has been adjourned until July 23 for a full hearing.

Fans launched a petition to have a statue of the late singer erected in his hometown of Braintree in the wake of his death. At the time of writing, it had 8,653 signatures.
