Pete Doherty is “safe” his Libertines band mates have confirmed.

Fans' feared for the singer’s welfare after the band were last night forced to postpone their London gig due to a “medical situation” with some fearing that he had gone missing.

But the official Twitter account for the band today reassured fans that Doherty is safe.

The tweet read: “We can assure everyone that Peter is safe. Clearly this is a private matter, but we also feel it necessary to let people know he is ok.”

The band were set to perform at Electric Ballroom in Camden at 9:15pm as part of their intimate venues tour, but fans were informed at 11:30pm that the gig was cancelled.

A spokesperson told fans: "Due to an emergency – a medical situation – tonight's show is being postponed.

"I say postponed because I mean postponed, not cancelled. A new date will be released tomorrow."

The band later took to Facebook to apologise for postponing and confirmed that tonight's scheduled gig in Manchaster has also been postoned.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances tonight the Libertines have had to postpone their sold out shows at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and at the Ritz in Manchester tomorrow night,” the statement read.

“Peter, Carl, John and Gary apologise whole heartedly to their fans and will reschedule both shows as soon as possible. This will not effect any of The Libertines other commitments. HQ.”

Doherty has battled drug addiction in the past but made a triumphant return to the music industry with the original Libertines line-up for a surprise set at Glastonbury Festival earlier this year.
