Reality TV star Ryan Libbey has apologised for posting a London terror attack tribute, which he doubled up as a promotional post.

Libbey faced a backlash after he shared the “clumsy” post on Instagram and tagged a list of brands.

The Made in Chelsea regular – who is dating co-star Louise Thompson – posted a video apology on Monday and blamed his lack of tact on adapting to life in the “public eye”.

He said: “I just wanted to apologise efficiently for what was a clumsy post on my Instagram over the weekend I really didn’t mean to cause upset or offence. Quite simply it was a clumsy choice of photo from myself and I shouldn’t have tagged any brands.”

Libbey said the post was meant to be a “genuine and heartfelt message” as he wanted to “reach out and offer my condolences to everyone in London who has been affected by what was a terrible event”.

Addressing the criticism he finished: “I got it wrong this time and I am sorry. I’ve just got to learn from this.

“I’m still getting used to being in the public eye. It’s not easy. I do apologise and my thoughts and prayers do go out to everyone in London.”

Libbey assured fans that the post “wasn’t sponsored in any way” and called on anyone who he offended to “[direct message] me so we can talk directly”.

The post showed Libbey posing in a blue outfit with sunglasses and brown shoes, with Tom Ford, Independent Leaders, Scalpers and Dukes Boots tagged.

Criticism came thick and fast with one follower commenting: “No deep thoughts in that photo other than posing (sic).”

Another wrote: “People are dead and critically injured after being stabbed multiple times but I'm sure they will really appreciate this picture of yourself promoting brands. Self obsessed and shameful.”

A third posted: “The words are perfect... but to post them under a picture of yourself posing is completely in bad taste.”

His girlfriend Thompson defended the post, writing: “This was NOT promotional, what is wrong with people !!!!”

It comes days after Thompson was forced to apologise for posting an “insensitive” bikini snap following the suicide bombing in Manchester.
