Darling/ The L-Shaped Room Warner Home Video, 15, £15.99/ £12.99
A few little gems from the British New Wave heyday of the 1960s get a welcome outing thanks to Warner. Volume One has John Schlesinger's witty exploration of jetset mores, Darling, written by Frederic (Eyes Wide Shut) Raphael, in which bubbly beauty Julie Christie (pictured with Dirk Bogarde) finds the path to fame and fortune rather bumpier than she imagined. This is coupled with Bryan Forbes's adaptation of Lynne Reid Banks's book about single mother-to-be Leslie Caron's relations with her boarding-house's eccentric inhabitants. These neglected films are well worth a look. NC
