Paloma Faith refers to her child as ‘they’ to avoid getting mixed up in ‘celeb culture’

Paloma Faith has said that she won't reveal the gender of her baby as she doesn't want them to get mixed up in "celebrity culture".

Faith, 36, said she refers to the gender in her private life, but will only use the term “they” during interviews.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain she said: “I refer to bubba as they – only in interviews. Not in my private life, then I refer to the gender.”

Host Susanna Reid asked: “So it’s about keeping your private life private?”

Faith - who has teamed up with SKODA's Driver's Seat Initiative, in partnership with The Prince's Trust - replied: “I just don’t believe celeb culture is a particularly healthy environment for a child so I try and keep that separate.”

The singer welcomed her first child with boyfriend Leyman Lahcine last December.

Faith praised the NHS as the “greatest achievement” after she gave birth by emergency caesarean.

In a handwritten Instagram announcement she wrote: “It was with all the help of some incredible doctors, midwives and nurses at UCH NHS Hospital.

“The devotion, kindness and commitment shown by all of them was second to none and I am humbled by the whole experience.

“God bless the NHS!”

Faith was recording the album while carrying, and joked that her newborn is more familiar with her music than her boyfriend, who she revealed doesn’t know any of the lyrics to her songs.

Speaking to the Standard she said: “The baby was in me when I was making the album so has probably heard the album more than anybody apart from me.

“My boyfriend doesn’t know any of the lyrics to my songs ever. He’ll be coming to my gig and I’ll be looking at him in the audience and he’s looking at other people to see what the words are. I don’t think he cares that he doesn’t know the songs.”
