Rebekah Vardy scolded Piers Morgan for calling her a WAG during an interview for Good Morning Britain.

Rebekah – who is married to Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy – told Morgan that the term is “derogatory”.

Rebekah snapped back at Morgan when he asked how she feels about being "one of the chief WAGs".

Unimpressed by his question she said: “Oh come on Piers. You can think of something better than that surely.

"It’s a bit derogatory."

When asked if she was offended by the term she said: “Personally, yes, because I’m not just a wife and a girlfriend.

“I’m a mum and there are so many more of the wives and the girlfriends that have careers and do actually do other stuff as opposed to sitting and shopping.”

Morgan asked what she would prefer to be known as, to which she replied: “My name as I’d call you yours.

Viewers praised Rebekah for shutting down the controversial broadcaster with one writing: “That @piersmorgan interview was cringe worthy. Just calling Mrs Vardy a 'WAG' and not what she wanted to be called, her name, Rebecca.”

Another posted: “Thought Rebekah Vardy came out of that interview with Piers Morgan with great credit. She could give him a run for his money!”

The sporting couple also spoke about their marriage proposal and Rebekah revealed that Jamie got down on one knee in a room filled with broken glass.

Speaking about the moment in a club in Antwerp she said: "I just thought, please get up off the floor otherwise you're going to end up with glass in your kness."
