Ryan Gosling has paid tribute to the creator of ‘Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal’ after he lost his battle with cancer, aged 27.

McHenry - who found fame after creating a series of hilarious Vines which poked fun at the actor for appearing to shun his cereal - passed away at the weekend after a lengthy battle with osteosarcoma.

Gosling took to Vine to create his own touching tribute to McHenry.

In the six second clip the 34-year-old actor can be seen pouring cereal into a bowl before adding milk, raising his spoon and taking a bite.

He later tweeted that he felt "very lucky" to have been a part of McHenry's life, posting: “My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry's family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been apart of his life in some small way.”

The Vine series, which was created shortly before McHenry's cancer diagnosis in July 2013, received a new found attention last month when Gosling referenced the clips during a Twitter Q&A for his new film Lost River.

The official account for iTunes Movies asked, "What’s one thing fans don’t know about @RyanGosling?," to which he replied: "I actually love cereal."

McHenry engaged in the tweet writing, "AHAHAHAHA! I'm so sorry for making that meme. Will you forgive me?," to which Gosling joked: "No."
