Saoirse Ronan to star in film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach
Saoirse Ronan has been lined up to star in an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach.
The Irish actress, who is nominated for an Oscar for her role in Brooklyn, will play the lead in Dominic Cooke’s forthcoming film.
Helmed by Number 9 Films, which was behind Todd Haynes’ Carol, this will be Cooke’s feature directorial debut.
Producer Elizabeth Karlsen said: “It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project.

McEwan’s 2007 Booker Prize shortlisted novel is about how a series of miscommunications shape the lives of a young couple honeymooning in 1962.
Before filming kicks off later this year, Ronan will take to the stage on Broadway in a revival of The Crucible.
The actress has also signed up to star in Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird.
