Chris Rock appears to have confirmed that he’ll be hosting next year’s Oscars.

The US comedian, who hosted the ceremony back in 2005, responded to rumours with a tweet on Wednesday afternoon.

While The Academy is yet to make an official announcement, Rock posted a photo of himself holding an Oscar statuette, under the caption:

“Look who's back. #Oscars.”

Earlier in the day reports surfaced suggesting that the 50-year-old had been invited back ten years after his original hosting job.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that the comedian was in talks to finalise a deal with the Academy.

The Oscars diversity problem explained

Reginald Hudlin, who is the ceremony’s new co-producer has worked with Rock in the past and even directed the pilot episode of Everybody Hates Chris.

Speaking to The Wrap last year, Rock admitted that he’d love to host the awards again but hadn’t been asked.

He said: “I didn’t get an offer. I mean, it’s Neil Patrick Harris. It’s like, who would pick me before Neil Patrick Harris? He’s an amazing host.”

The 88th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 28.
